Massachusetts Senate President Karen E. Spilka has set out an expansive list of priorities for forging a “new normal” as the world and Massachusetts emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Senate enters 2021 facing the immediate challenges of moderating the pandemic and setting Massachusetts on the road to economic recovery. But President Spilka is also looking at long-term issues such as the effect of COVID on remote work, transportation and child care.
Join the Associated Industries of Massachusetts Executive Forum on March 26 as Senate President Karen Spilka outlines her vision for the commonwealth in a year filled with both promise and risk.
Karen Spilka became president of the Massachusetts State Senate in 2018. She previously served as the Chair of the Massachusetts Senate Committee on Ways & Means beginning in January 2015. Prior to that, she served as the Senate Majority Whip (2013-2015), Assistant Majority Whip (2012-2013), Chair of the Joint Committee on Economic Development and Emerging Technologies (2009-2012), and Chair of the Joint Committee on Children, Families and Persons with Disabilities (2005-2009), a committee she helped originate. She began her legislative career as a State Representative for the Seventh Middlesex district in 2001.
