Governor Charlie Baker is the 72nd governor of Massachusetts, but the first to lead the commonwealth through an unprecedented convergence of a global pandemic, an economic crisis, a racial reckoning and a contentious national election.
Massachusetts has emerged this fall as a state that has used science, persistence and quiet determination to become a model for managing the spread of COVID-19. It is a job that has required the governor to balance often conflicting demands of public health, economic upheaval, fiscal management and educational achievement. Though it all, Governor Baker remains one of the most popular state chief executives in the country.
